2016 was one interesting/crazy year, depending on who you ask I guess. We saw some true heavyweights in the realm of music, film, entertainment, and pop culture pass away, namely: Alan Rickman, Frank Sinatra Jr., Doris Roberts, Chyna, Prince, Afeni Shakur Davis, Muhammad Ali, Pat Summitt, Rev. Tim LaHaye, Kenny Baker (the man behind the droid R2-D2 in the Star Wars films), Gene Wilder, Shawty Lo (Carlos Walker), Tommy Ford, Gwen Ifill, Alan Thicke, Craig Sager, Carrie Fisher, and many others. We even witnessed the election of Donald Trump……. Okay… moving on now…
For me personally, the fall marked two types of transitions: (1) a job transition in which I went from working at the Sheraton to my new job as a graphic artist at a local sign company, and (2) I transitioned in maturity, as I learned the hard way to leave certain people I thought I knew in the past. The second one was really difficult for me because I felt close them, but the closeness I thought I had was not healthy.
But no matter how the year was for you, as we approach a new year, be determined to leave anything that was negative for you behind you. Don't let anything hold you back from experiencing what God might have for you in this new year to come.
If anyone was hating on you or tried to harm you in any way, pray for them, forgive them, and let 'em go. It's not worth it to hold bitterness and resentment in your heart. It'll eat you up inside. Forgiveness is not so much for them as it is more for you, so you can heal.
If you had put your trust in the "system" and it failed you [once again], this new year redirect your trust so that it's in the Lord, and not in any man or system. The Lord will provide for you and take care of you better. Put your trust in Jesus and watch Him blow your mind as He blesses you in unexpected ways because you are His child so that makes you cosmic royalty!
If you had unfulfilled goals and dreams, don't see it as a failure. See it as the right time for the fulfillment of your goals and dreams has yet to come. And remember you are not your mistakes and "failures". That is not your identity. You are not to be defined by your mistakes and uncompleted tasks. You are defined by your faith in God and determination.
This new year, YOU WILL succeed! You will see greatness, not only in the lives of those around you, but in your own life as well. You will not sit on the sidelines and watch life go by. You will get on the field and score and make it a win. You will be someone that others look up to. You will be one of the ones that God sends people to for advice, help, and encouragement. You will help others fulfill their goals and others will do the same for you. You will be a good friend to people.
If you had drama with friends or foes, you will remember that "we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Eph. 6:12). Leave the drama in 2016.
I believe that 2017 will be an awesome year. Believe that nothing can stop you in your journey. And if you stumble, it's okay. It won't be the end of world. Never let a stumble in the road mark the end of a journey. Don't be so hard on yourself. Don't take yourself too seriously. If you didn't get to have fun in 2016, then have lots of fun in 2017. Don’t forget TO LIVE! Expect God to do big things this new year. Be encouraged. In Isaiah 43:19 God declares, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” God is doing a new thing in me, in you, in our families, in our communities, and even in our nation, I believe. Get ready for it.
2017 here we come!
I just want to encourage and inspire as many people as I can for Jesus Christ.
