It is of the utmost importance that we worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:23, 24). I believe part of that has to do with embracing the truth not only about who God is (for of course we have to acknowledge Who God truly is in order to really worship Him), but also about who we are IN HIM. Identity is found in Christ and worship has got to be a lifestyle, not just something you do in a religious setting. ("Religious" does not just refer to Christian contexts either, as some people have seemed to assume.) Who are you glorifying in worship? God or the devil? …
Whenever we choose to embrace the lies about who we are (whether they stem from negative things people have said to or about us, or whether they stem from negative things we just think about ourselves based on negative personal experiences) that actually glorifies satan, the father of lies (John 8:44). Then problems arise as we walk around as if we're defeated, and we end up doing things of the flesh, instead of the Spirit. (The devil is a lie!)
But when we embrace the TRUTH about ourselves (who God says we are according to His Word) then that glorifies God, the Author of truth. The truth is believers, we are not defeated, but we are victorious and "we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us" (Romans 8:37). Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), so when we embrace who He says we are in Him, then I believe we will DO those things that represent our faith in Him. When we embrace who we really are in Christ, I believe that's when our individual lifestyles of worship to God can truly begin. Let us begin at Gilgal, the place where God removes the "reproach of Egypt" off of us and not stop until we reach Jordan (2 Kings 2:1-14)!
I just want to encourage and inspire as many people as I can for Jesus Christ.
