I sincerely pray for the safety of the members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon who were not on that bus when the racist chanting was taking place (and for their families as well) as they have been receiving various threats. I pray for the regional and national leadership of that fraternity, as I'm sure this is very difficult to deal with and beyond so embarrassing. I pray Oklahoma University can come to recover from this as the students and staff of the school band together for zero tolerance of racist antics. I pray for those two students who were of course directly involved and got expelled, that God would touch their hearts and lead them to repentance.
Racism in this country has been a severe issue for too many years as we all know. With the #BlackLivesMatter movement going on and all the controversy surrounding police brutality, I'll say this was a truly stupid thing for those members of the fraternity on that bus to do. Talking about blacks being n*****s and talking about them being lynched is NEVER a good thing. It's like you've crossed the line then. .... It's the 21st century people, but clearly some people are still stuck on ignorance and foolishness. Lord help us.
Even if black people use the word n***a in everyday speech or in music (which I don't totally agree with either), still, when people of other races use the n word, there is a certain sting you cannot take back. I'm sorry but because of the history of this nation, the words "cracker," "honkey," or other racial slurs directed at whites will not have the same level of sting and hurt because of their white privilege. They have access--on a systemic level--to certain resources and upward mobility. But when a white person, or any other person for that matter, calls a black person a n****r, all kinds of images about discrimination, deaths, and brutality directed towards blacks comes to mind and it's only natural for a rage in a black person to rise up. But we've got to make much more progress if we are to see real unity take place in this nation. Just my two cents. Peace.
